In this blog, Connie and Barbara share their email correspondence -- tackling topics as diverse as how to choose the best pet to whom they consider best to govern the nation. Their younger brother Doug (who loves to "stir the pot" and keep the conversations lively) summarizes the effort with a limerick.
We begin our conversation with our view of this week's vice presidential debate. Oct. 2012

CONNIE: Barbara, hi So what did you think about last night's debate?
BARBARA: I thought it was a tie.... each candidate had strengths and weaknesses. In the end, the Dems will be satisfied with Biden's performance; the GOPs will be happy with Ryan. I could pick at both guys' deliveries... but will stop at this point. But, for a young dude, Ryan was quite good.... I liked him.
CONNIE: Did you feel that Biden's constant laughing, chiding, smirking was vice presidential quality? I was so disappointed that the moderator didn't ask him to stop. It was deplorable and if our team had done such, I would have been the first to chastise them. I am assuming you do not support that kind of behavior or do you?
BARBARA: Actually, it was absolutely the right way to respond to someone who couldn't be truthful ...I will send you reporter Matt Taibbi's rationale (in Rolling Stone) that captures my thoughts.
CONNIE: I cannot imagine anyone, especially you, who would think it necessary to behave in such a rude, insolent and unprofessional way. It was totally out-of-line for a statesman, our VP for God's sake, to chide his opponent with snarls, sneers and constant interruptions. Had Ryan laughed, sneered and behaved this way, YOU would have cried out like a scalded dog. Yes, please sent Matt Taibbi's rationale. I cannot wait to read how this conduct is acceptable.
BARBARA: Here's the link to the article, written by a journalist who does not particularly care that much for Biden or Obama....

CONNIE: This magazine has no credibility... "Rolling Stone"!!! You had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find justification for Biden's behavior. He has every right to debate but to make faces, chide, laugh... is totally unacceptable especially for the Vice President of the United States. It is not acceptable in any debate any age, any level.

If you align yourself with people who think like this, you become just like them. Remember....When you fight like a pig, you and the pig get dirty, but the pig likes it." Both Matt Taibbi and Joe Biden fight like pigs.
BARBARA: You shouldn't have asked! :)
CONNIE: Got that one absolutely right!!! We agree on that statement!!
BARBARA: Forget about body language. So much is at stake in this election -- social security, Medicare, women's reproductive rights, Planned Parenthood, government support of research and public radio/tv, national parks, the environment and so much more. I'm voting Democrat because I believe it is the right thing to do. I respect your decision to vote as you please.
CONNIE: I know which way you are voting, respect it, but just cannot figure that the party of your choice will improve. They have had four years to make an improvement and all is worse. Why do you think they will do better in the next four years?
BARBARA: What, only 4 years!!?? Your party had 8 years to screw things up royally -- getting us into an unwarranted war with Iraq and the worst recession in 60 years!!

DOUG:
THE JOE-KER
There was a debate with Biden
Who thought he'd score points by chidden.
He smiled and laughed aloud
Which made his dentist proud
But his mouth, not his lead did widen.

BARBARA: Connie, I've got an idea on how we could channel all this back n forth bantering into a fun project. I think it's interesting that two retired sisters -- raised together and only a year apart - could have such opposing views. I propose creating a blog or column .. and just run some of our current email correspondence. Then after the election we could possibly find other topics to dissect.
Let me know if you're in. ;)
CONNIE: I'm in.
